Spice up your keto meals to make them more interesting!

Listen, I know first hand that starting and maintaining a keto diet can feel super restrictive. I have been there, and I am still there.

This was a big reason I started this keto community, it was to share ideas in relation to trying new foods – which includes new spices.

When I tell you I am picky, I am telling you that I am not that adventurous when it comes to trying new things. The problem with this was that I ended up eating the same keto foods over and over…which became boring.

In order to love food again, I needed to be a little more adventurous with the spices.

Time to Spice up your Keto!

There are spices that can change the flavor of a dish immensely, and here are a few of my favorites to spice up your Keto, too!:

  • Chili powder
  • Curry powder
  • Cinnamon
  • Thyme
  • Rosemary
  • Sesame seeds
  • Turmeric
  • Cumin
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Dried chili flakes/Cayenne pepper (very little of this for me though!)

I found that once I had become used to the elimination of sugars in my diet, the flavors of these spices became much more appetizing.

And the truth is, once the Ucanketo community grew I was amazed by the delicious recipes the members would share!

If you’re anything like me, a picky eater, I urge you to continue to try new flavors you’ll enjoy. Spices really do make keto living go from boring to fun.

Aside from adding hot peppers to foods, the addition of just a little of these spices go a really long way. For fun, head over to my Pinterest page for recipes. I hope you find something new to love about your menu!

In the meantime, I’ll share a keto recipe with y’all that has been highly recommended because it is easy, quick and delicious:

Coconut Curry Chicken

Ingredients:

1 lb chicken breast cubed

½ tsp himalayan sea salt

2 tbsp olive oil or coconut oil

½ an onion diced into small pieces

8 oz can of coconut cream (pour out excess coconut water and use the cream only)

½ can diced tomatoes (drained)

¼ cup chicken broth

1 ½ tbsp curry powder (or to taste)

4 garlic cloves

1 tsp grated ginger

Optional: ¼ tsp cayenne pepper or fresh chili’s

Optional: Chopped fresh coriander to garnish

Instructions:
  1. In a large saucepan, heat the oil on medium heat and saute the onions until they are translucent (about 10 minutes), push to the side.
  2. Increase the heat to medium/high and brown the chicken breast.
  3. Add the remainder of the ingredients, adjust the salt to taste, and let simmer for 20-30 minutes on low heat.

If you are considering a side, cauliflower always goes well with curry!

Spicing up your keto menu can be a fun way to try new things, keto does not have to be boring or expensive! Adding new flavors can be exciting, and although you may not like every new thing you try you may discover a new favorite dish.

So go ahead and invest in spices you may have avoided because you weren’t confident in cooking them, be adventurous, learn to love the kitchen, and be excited about spicing up your keto menu!

Leave a comment once you’ve tried this recipe and let others know what changes you have or would make, or just let us know what your thoughts were! And remember, share this with your Keto (and non-Keto) friends, groups, etc.!
