I began my Keto journey more than a handful of years ago, and I wish I had someone to debunk all of the keto myths I was told.
I’m sure you can imagine the inaccurate things shared by well-meaning friends and family about how I was ruining my health.
With all of the information in the world at our fingertips, even today, I know you have probably heard many of the same things I have.
Many myths about keto continue to be shared online, but I am here to clarify things for you.
They are well-meaning…
I mean, yes, friends and family are (I’d like to think) well-meaning. My biggest frustration came from those insisting that my Keto lifestyle was harming my health. The truth is, I’m sure you can relate, that my pre-keto lifestyle was killing me.
I lived off Oreos and Dr. Pepper!
I can assure you there is zero nutritional value in either. Overweight, exhausted, moody, and sleepless; my skin was suffering, my hair was thinning, and I had a drawer of medications I would reach for every day just to feel a little normal.
If you ask me, this is not healthy!
How many of y’all have heard any of these Keto Myths?
- How do you expect to be able to live off bacon and cheese for the rest of your life? Well, as I’m sure you all know, Keto living is much more than cheese and bacon (both are delicious bonuses, of course). We are more than capable of having healthy, delicious, and nutrient-dense Keto options when we eat.
- Your body needs carbohydrates! Yes, it does. However, the average North American eats astronomically more carbs than is necessary for survival – this is why we are obese! Veggies and fruit have enough carbs to fuel our bodies that we don’t need starchy, carb-dense, or processed foods to fuel our bodies. Carbs like rice, bread, grains, cookies, potatoes, and even those found in fruit turn into sugar when we digest them.
- All of that animal fat will kill you! Actually, Keto ingredients are better for you than what you’d normally be eating. Good fats are just…good for you, and fat does not make you fat. We use butter instead of margarine (which I could just stop at to prove my point). Grass-fed animal meats are encouraged, nitrate-free bacon and uncured deli meats, and sugar are considered as harmful as other toxins and additives in what we eat!
- You’ll be starving all the time! I have yet to starve. Keto foods are satisfying and will keep you full for extended periods because it’s the protein that keeps hunger at bay. Carbs make you crash and feel overly hungry because of the sudden spike in blood sugar, then the crash follows.
- There are better ways to lose weight! Really? Because first things first, this is not just about weight loss. It’s about fuelling my body the best way I can. It’s about health, nutrition, and feeling better than I ever have. Keto has allowed my body and my gut to heal. I’ve been managing an autoimmune disease while on keto, and I have been sleeping better than I have in decades!
People share myths because they wish they could also make significant life changes.
There are always going to be people who will doubt your choices simply because they are choices they wish they could make for themselves. Some of these people will be those who are closest to you. This has nothing to do with you, and I hope you know that!
Deciding to live the Keto journey is life-changing because you’ll look and feel better and have a chance to face parts of yourself that you may not have met yet. That part of you who researches makes informed choices, stands up for yourself, and learns to love and nurture the body you have.
Here’s to your newfound courage to love on yourself!
I hope you have found this information about the top 5 keto myths I have heard useful!

So glad you help with our way of eating. I am low carb for diabetes but have lost about 60 pounds since I started. I follow keto rules and recipes and it is good to have someone helping with this.

Need to kick start my butt and body back into Keto lifestyle for 2023. Lost a nice amount of weight a few years ago but slipped and some came back.
Love all your posts and read all of them and also have done a lot of your recipes. Love them.
Need to be strong for next year.
Thank you for your time and the research you have done to boost the lagging faith of many.
Thank you.
Can you do a blog about getting a mindset to stick to keto? I can’t seem to get back on track and I’m not sure where I am going wrong. Thank you
You will find there are some blogs on mindset on my website 🙂 Let me know if there was something more specific xo
Oh so true, I been on Keto for almost 9 months now and I have lost weight and dropped 2 pant sizes and I am never hungry, my niece turned me on to you. There are times when I forget to eat (I never forgot to eat before Keto) or am just not hungry, but I make sure to get my protein and fats, I usually do them early in the day so I don’t have to worry. I never fasted before and now do 8/16 fasting daily with no problems. Thank you for all that you post and the good info you share with all of us going down this road.
Amy is a STAR!!
Thank for for setting people straight!
YES! YES! YES! Thank you so much for all you do

I know the feel better is real. My pain levels are down so much I can even walk and nothurt.
Great job, Amy!
Love your Keto group. Keto is the only way of eating that I’ve tried that has ever been successful for me…my Dr approves…has to be so much better than the awful stuff I used to live on…lost 45 lbs so far over 3 yrs. Slow yes, but better than gaining. Only 15 lbs to go, then maintenance! I’m diabetic and soon to be 79… feeling younger every day.
Thank you for the encouragement and recipes.
Blessings to you 🙏💕🤗
.
Heard all these myths. They don’t realize that all the protein keeps you full and the veggies keep you regular. My son was like… Oh gee another diet. He actually loves your recipes! Thanks for all you do! You are amazing and very appreciated! Lots of love to you!
Grrrr…..I met up with an “old friend” in Walmart today. She thought I must be ill because I had lost weight. I said, “nope, it’s Keto. In 2 1/2 months, I’ve lost 29 pounds. I – ” “OMG, you are not on that crazy diet!” “It’s not crazy. I feel better than I ever have. I don’t need my cane to get around, and I’ve stopped falling. I have more energy. ” “Well, you may have lost a little, but I’m sure it’s all water.” “OK. I have to go. My great grandson is looking at some computer stuff. I need to round him up and get checked out.” “Well, I hope you get to feeling better. It was good to see you.” “Oh, really? Did you see me, really?” “What?” “Never mind. Gotta go.” Found Robert. We put a keyboard and mouse in our cart. He said, “GiGi, I’m real glad you feel so good. You’re a lot more fun, like you used to be when I was little.” I said, “Robert, you have always been and always will be, my very best friend.”
Thank you Amy.
I think Ive heard them all! Thanks for posting
Thank you for posting this blog. Going to use it when I get slack from people.
Thank you for this. I just had a doctor tell me that Keto is not good for me and that I needed beans in my diet and some grains like quinoa. I get so confused. Trying to restart my Keto lifestyle after stopping 2 years ago. I Have put back on 20 lbs and I look & feel awful. Yet, I can’t seem to get rededicated
Thank you
I’ve got so many of those comments, but when I say I lost 75#, feel better than I have in most of my adult life, and have more energy than many half my age(I’m 64).
The Keto plan helps me keep diabetes at bay. Thank you.
You are such a great help and blessing to so many people!! Thank you for all you do.
Thank You.
You were a true blessing to my life when I was on keto, I jumped off the wagon awhile but I’m headed right back on it this year and the 1st person I turn to is and will always be you
