Y’all know I’m not a doctor, so please don’t take this information and use it to replace medical advice from your doctor if you have gut issues. I am a devout Keto community member and have found my own health improvements as a result of this lifestyle, so I’m here to share my experiences and knowledge — specifically today, leaky gut — with all of you!
What is Leaky Gut?
Leaky gut is something that has only recently been recognized as a real medical condition, but this doesn’t mean it hasn’t existed before this. In a nutshell, it’s exactly how it sounds. There are tiny leaks in your digestive system which cause nourishment, toxins, undigested food and nutrients to leak.
This causes these particles to enter your bloodstream, which your body feels the need to fight off as foreign particles or “intruders”. The result is an overactive immune system that becomes exhausted and confused – leading to autoimmune disruptions. If you already have Crohn’s or Celiac disease, or IBS your body is already working overtime to fight off illness.
The Good News!
The good news is that many Keto foods are gut-healing. Meaning they are gentle on your gut and allow it to heal so fewer particles are passing into your bloodstream. Breads, pasta’s, and gluten in general are hard on your gut, so naturally eliminating these will build a solid foundation for a healthier digestive system (gut).
It’s also not a surprise that sugar adds to leaky gut as it is inflammatory and it invites bacteria to live in your gut. The replacement of sugary foods through a keto diet, with foods that are high in healthy fats is a great start to reducing inflammation in the body.
Keto and Gut Health
I know I mention this a lot, but bone broth is one of the first things people with leaky gut are advised to include in their diet. It’s considered a ‘superfood’ because it repairs the digestive tract’s lining.
Other keto approved foods like dark leafy greens, eggs, grass fed meats, sugar free and low carb foods, healthy fats and collagen all play a big part in gut healing and fighting inflammation.
What Else?
Enough about foods for now. Getting enough sleep, decreasing your stress, being around people you love and trust, and basically just learning to be happier with your life are equally as important to gut health.
Have you heard that “your gut is your second brain”?
This is because it has been proven that many of our ‘feelings’ are registered in our gut. Our bodies need to have a healthy gut to be able to support the creation and use of our feel good hormones, which aren’t just for feeling happy, they are needed so we can produce healthy sleep patterns too!
And what’s one of the biggest contributors to obesity? Poor sleep and stress!
I don’t know about y’all, but this information has helped me to look at my health differently. It has also made my mission to share more about keto benefits bigger than it ever was.
This journey has been one of a lot of trial and error, but I love to learn and I love to share even more. I hope this information was helpful, and I hope it gives you an even better push to stay motivated to improve your own health!

Great information thank you!!!
Thank you for sharing! I’ve been struggling for years with “leaky gut” issues. Sleep is now my daily goal.
This makes a whole lot of sense. I need refrigerator magnets of foods to display on the refrigerator staring back for my brain to put my concience at work when life happens and we react. Being a visual learning person, I think I need the clean slate look first thing to say “today is a new day, start anew.
Thank you for the information.
Amy I just want to take this time to thank you for this community. It has changed my life completely. I’ve gone from 300 lbs, fighting anxiety and depression, a ruptured L5 disk and bad knees to a loss of 60 lbs so far, I can walk again and no longer depressed. I feel absolutely glorious and it’s all thanks to you. I’m educated on Keto and learned how my body acts and reacts to certain foods and just loving this whole process of getting my life back to a healthier and happier me. God bless you always.
Since starting keto, I have gradually learned the importance of healing my whole self. It includes not only food, but also getting enough sleep, movement, and mental health. I am amazed how that in changing my diet, my motivation to work on the other areas has naturally happened. I guess that proves that the gut and brain are truly connected.
Thank You Amy for Sharing

Does anyone know if Amy tracks or do you track Activate carbs when doing that each month?
I do yes, and I believe anyone who is focused on weight loss overall — should. When allowing up to 25G net carbs a day, there is generally a lot of room to count them without worry of them going over. Amy XO
This has been super helpful thank you!
