Supplements while on a Keto diet have become a huge marketing plan for many companies. Although it may be easy to excuse using supplements because of this, the use of supplements while Keto is often necessary.

5 supplements I think are a must while Keto

The truth is, there are so many variables when it comes to whether or not you need supplements. But the truth is, no matter how nutritionally dense your foods are, there is a good chance you’ll want to add some supplements to ensure you are at your healthiest!

Vitamin D.

Almost half of the American population is deficient in vitamin D.

Why does this matter? Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to heart disease, cancers, diabetes, bone density issues and autoimmunity.

The best source of vitamin D is from the sun, the next best source is through supplements, there aren’t really any foods that are high enough in this important vitamin to support what our bodies need to remain healthy!

MCT oil.

Medium-chain triglycerides are a form of saturated fats. MCT oil is derived from coconuts and they will help to elevate your blood ketone levels that are produced in your liver.

MCT oil has been a simple Keto hack to enhance ketosis, plus it will give you a good burst of energy! Start slow though, MCT oil can have a laxative effect on some people so it’s best to start small and work your way up to an amount your body can tolerate!

Electrolytes.

This combination of minerals – chloride, magnesium, sodium, potassium, calcium, bicarbonate and phosphorus will literally add power to your nervous system!

It’s common on a Keto diet to be deficient in electrolytes. The low carb nature of Keto means fewer foods rich in some of these minerals, while being in ketosis will increase sodium and potassium secretions through urine.

Electrolytes are minerals—sodium, chloride, potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, and bicarbonate—that conduct electrical charges in your body. They literally help power your nervous system. This basically means there are fewer electrolytes going into our bodies, and more being excreted.

Omega-3 fatty acids.

These are commonly found in seafood, and are very important in regulating inflammation and supporting brain health. A diet high in fatty fish is great, but it also isn’t a realistic idea for many.

I would advise you to talk to your doctor before including Omega-3 fatty acid supplements because they can have an adverse effect on certain medications.

Also, ensure the supplement you choose is FDA approved, there are many unregulated supplements out there that could run the risk of being rancid (you’ll know by the strong fishy odour when you open them).

Collagen.

I know… I say this a lot! But I just couldn’t leave this one out. Collagen has worked wonders in healing my gut, promoting hair and nail growth, improving my skin, and making sure my joints and heart are healthy and happy!

There are a ton of collagen supplements out there, but they are all not created equal. My best advice is to invest in those that you will want to take and that are high quality! To check out my Collagen Combo, just click HERE!

I mean… the choice is yours when it comes to supplementing your Keto diet. But I feel like you have already made the choice to take care of your body, why stop at losing weight?

Using supplements while Keto has changed the way I look and feel, I want that for you as well!
