Those of you who have been ucanketo members for a long time know I haven’t always had a consistent collagen regimen.

I knew collagen was good for our bodies, but I didn’t realize HOW good. And the truth is, it’s better late than never when incorporating new healthy routines and ingredients into your life!

We Are Traditionally Reactive When Things Change

We are so quick to reach for the latest eye cream when we start to see crow’s feet. We will reach for an antacid when we have heartburn. We rush to buy the newest shampoo craze when our hair begins to thin – but at what point do we put all of this energy into being proactive rather than reactive?

Collagen is an Important Requirement for Good Health

Collagen comprises around 70% of our skin, bones, and connective tissue. As we age, our body slowly reduces the natural collagen it produces. This is where the visible aging process sets in. The crow’s feet, brittle nails, thinning hair, and cellulite become more visible as we age.

Not only does collagen affect our appearance, but it has a significant effect on our gut health as well. Collagen helps repair bones and joints; it can ease arthritis, reduce inflammation and regulate how our bodies digest all of this wonderful keto food we eat! Collagen has also been proven to help with brain function, and at this point, a clear mind is precisely what I need.

What is Collagen?

The easiest way to explain it is that it’s a protein we already have in our body, the glue that holds everything together and repairs damaged cells.

Why Does Collagen Matter Now With Keto?

Chances are, you need to be more proactive with your collagen supplements. Things like sun exposure, pollution, smoking, alcohol, and sugary foods have all contributed to your decline in collagen to this point, so let’s see how much we can reverse by adding supplements NOW. If I had known in my 20s what I know now – I would have been all over collagen. But if you’re like me, we are doing our best with what we have!

Weight loss, especially a loss that happens quickly, can leave sagging skin. Collagen supplements will help prevent this and help our bodies repair this faster. Any dramatic change in our diets can cause our digestive systems to go haywire, and collagen will allow us to remain feeling good while our bodies adjust.

What’s My Big Secret?

Well, my secret is that I have no secret. I love my collagen products so much that I couldn’t choose just one if I wanted to. I take liquid collagen that supports weight loss, have collagen cream and serum, live for my bone broth (which I’ll save for another blog!), and have collagen supplements used monthly to aid digestion and added energy.

I love to share my tips and tricks; we all know I’ve made my share of mistakes along the way. I’m happy to have made them if it saves you the hassle!

If you still need to join my Ucanketo group, come on over! We have so much keto, collagen, and nutritional information to share – especially why collagen with keto matters!
